Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to announce that the second call for projects of the UNESCO-Aschberg programme for artists and cultural professionals has just been launched.

The call is open to governments and public institutions of UNESCO Member States, as well as to civil society organizations, to support initiatives aimed at protecting and promoting artistic freedom, including the status of the artist in the broad sense, that is to say the following rights:

  • to have artistic work supported, distributed, and remunerated
  • freedom of movement for artists and their work
  • artists’ freedom of association
  • the protection of the social and economic rights of artists
  • to participate in cultural life
  • to create without censorship

Please note that this year the call includes two tracks:

Track 1 - Technical assistance for governments and public institutions: a technical support to revise or design new regulatory frameworks (laws, policies, measures, etc.) that protect and promote artistic freedom, including the status of the artist and cultural professionals.

Track 2 - Financial assistance for civil society organisations: a financial support to implement innovative projects aimed at advancing the issue of artistic freedom, including the status of the artist at the local, national, regional, or international level (e.g., capacity building, advocacy, monitoring, and research activities etc.).

The candidates are invited to submit their proposals by email to aschberg@unesco.orgno later than 28 February 2023. More information including the application forms can be find at the following address: https://en.unesco.org/creativity/calls/call-projects-unesco-aschberg-programme-artists-cultural. We will organise in January an information session to answer any questions or clarifications required. We will come back to you shortly with all the information concerning this open exchange.

Feel free to share this call with your networks. The UNESCO-Aschberg coordination team remains at your entire disposition to discuss the modalities of the call, and support the countries in your clusters.

All the best,
