[Watch Video] NHW2020 | Museum of Namibian Fashion | Ekori

IMG_1267_resized_20200924_060133688 Ekori - National Museum of Namibia

MAN would like to use Namibian Heritage Week to introduce you to our plan to develop a Virtual Museum of Namibian Fashion. The museum will feature photographs of historical and contemporary clothing and accessories. We will make the site interactive and welcome comments and contributions that might feature in the museum when it is launched by the end of 2020. We will post a couple of items this week to start the conversation. The second object we are introducing is an Ekori .

Listen to Ms Cynthia Schimming , a Fashion designer and Otjiherero speaker explaining, the significance of the Ekori. The film clip is in English. A translation of the text into Otjiherero by Jahanika Hengombe is given below:

Ekori/Otjikaiva

Information

The Windhoek City Museum will introduce you to some of the places, stories and memories that give our city its unique identity. Our museum is not only a `Knowledge Bank’; it also encourages visitors to give their input and views on issues that concern us all as residents of the city. Our museum is, therefore, also a forum where people can share their different views and, perhaps, play a role in shaping the future of Namibia’s capital city. After walking around our museum we hope that you will take time to relax with a cold drink at the Jazz Café, our secret diamond hidden at the back of the building.

The museum contains six galleries with permanent displays and one gallery that is used for temporary exhibitions.
Opening Hours: 08h00-16h00 Monday to Friday
