Swakopmund Museum
Information
Founded in 1951 by dentist Dr. Alfons Weber who had a love for history and natural history. The Swakopmund Museum is the largest privately run Museum in Namibia. It houses exhibitions on a wide array of topics such as zoology, geology and technology. It also includes historical artefacts that give you a look into the history and culture of the Namibian people.
Activities
The Museum Shop is a must-stop for book lovers, postcard writers and souvenir shoppers. The Museum Shop has something for everyone, young and old. Need to send that postcard? No problem, our friendly cashiers got stamps for sale and will gladly help you locate our red post box to send it away.
Interesting local videos are shown in the Swakopmund Lecture Hall upon request. Additionally, don’t miss out on our wide array of lectures and events throughout the year. Follow us on social media, WhatsApp broadcast group or send us an email to be put on our mailing list.
Guided tours with a member of our museum team are also available. Bookings must be made at least one day before to avoid disappointments.
