Press Release: Invitation To The Confronting Colonial Pasts, Envisioning Creative Futures Project’s Closing Event | Friday 27th June 2025
As the Confronting Colonial Pasts, Envisioning Creative Futures project (CCP, ECF), primarily funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation, nears completion, the Museums Association of Namibia (MAN) is preparing to showcase the significant work achieved through this ambitious, multi-year collaboration. What better way to wrap up a project that has spanned research, repatriation, education, and innovation than with an event that celebrates not just outcomes, but the people, ideas, and cultural reconnections that made it all possible?
The Museums Association of Namibia (MAN), in proud partnership with the Confronting Colonial Pasts, Envisioning Creative Futures (CCP, ECF) project team, cordially invites members of the public, media, academia, cultural institutions, and our valued stakeholders to attend the official closing event of this landmark project.
The closing ceremony will take place on Friday, 27th June 2025, at 09h30 at the Goethe-Institut, Windhoek, Namibia. The event will be officially opened by Honourable Sanet Steenkamp, Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts, and Culture, who will also lead the launch of four significant project outputs.
This event will highlight the culmination of work undertaken since 2019 to reframe, reimagine, and reclaim Namibia’s cultural heritage, with a focus on empowering local voices and confronting colonial legacies through creativity, research, and innovation.
The programme will feature the following key highlights:
- Premiere of the CCP, ECF Documentary
- Launch of a Mobile Exhibition
- Unveiling of the Preventive Conservation & Documentation Guide
- Launch of an Interactive Online Archive
The event will offer an opportunity for reflection, networking, and celebration, as well as the chance to engage with the physical and digital materials that represent a shared commitment to heritage, justice, and creative futures.
Extensive public engagement through media, community events, and exhibitions has ensured that this project resonates widely across Namibia. However… this is only the beginning.
