The Museums Association of Namibia (MAN) is a Non-Governmental Organisation representing museums and heritage institutions throughout Namibia. As a representative body, it supports museums in various ways, such as in the field of training, funding and the networking of professionals. MAN invites qualified individuals to apply for the following trainee cataloguing positions.

POSITION: Trainee Cataloguers x2

DURATION: 01 August 2025 to 30 January 2026 (6 months)

PROJECT: Namibia Film Preservation Project

TIME COMMITMENT: Full-time (Monday to Friday, 08h00 -13h00, 14h00 -17h00)

REPORTING DIRECTLY TO: Mentors and the Museum Development Officer

REMUNERATION: N$9,000.00 per month, Total cost to company

ABOUT THE PROJECT AND POSITION

This groundbreaking project will catalogue endangered films documenting Namibia’s journey through liberation, independence, and regional solidarity. Many of these films are at risk, lost in private collections or stored on outdated formats. Trainee cataloguers will play a crucial role in recovering and documenting this visual heritage, supported by experts from Namibia and abroad. The six-month traineeship (August 2025 to January 2026) offers hands-on experience in a unique archival effort, preserving an irreplaceable chapter of Namibia's history. A brilliant opportunity for graduates keen to make a lasting impact on cultural memory and historical access.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential/Required

  • Namibian citizen
  • A bachelor’s degree in Records and Archives Management
  • Solid working knowledge of MS Excel
  • Fluent command of English
  • Genuine passion for heritage and cultural preservation
  • Ability to perform well under pressure
  • Sharp analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Meticulous and respectful handling of fragile historical materials
  • Willingness to travel
  • Willingness to learn and follow archival practices and standards

Desirable/Added Advantage

  • A postgraduate qualification in Document Conservation or History is a strong advantage
  • Archival experience
  • Technical background in audiovisual media or a basic understanding of digitisation and audiovisual technology
  • Proficiency in an indigenous Namibian language
  • Strong communication skills
